Today’s assignment is on the “Mississippi Three”. Three students who were killed during the “Freedom Summer of 1964”, when students and activists tried to help bring awareness to the civil rights movement. Their deaths brought much attention to what was going on with those working to end segregation.

Oak Marley Xigh Griffin  (this one got his mother’s last name) was born at 2:20 in the morning, 5/25/10, after 18 hours of heroic laboring and pushing by his mother. He weighs 11 lbs., 3 ozs. For my young students who don’t know, that’s a really big baby to have at home.

1. Open a word processing document, have it open with the Firefox window at the same time to use the paragraph in yellow below as keyboarding practice. Try to find the 10 mistakes while you keyboard:

In 1925, an sickness threatened the children of Nome Alaska. The only medicine that could save them was all most 1,000 miles away. Travel by air wasnt posible, so Gunner Kaassen traveled by sled. A husky named balto lead Kaassen and a team off dogs through wind and cold. On February 2, Kaassen return to Nome with the medicine. His life-saving trip inspired the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which is held in Alaska each march.
